Wonderful New World: New gardening supplies!

 Wonderful New World!

On the last day of term 3, some kind people from New World turned up and donated some “Little Garden” seedling pots, bags of soil and a garden bed for us to build and plant the veggies in. We really appreciate New World Howick. (Remember to go there!)

Here comes a fun thing to do next term with the gardening group!

Sausage Sizzle # 3: Reducing Our Landfill Waste!

 More "Zero Wasting"

Our wonderful waste crew, along with many other keen seniors have been busy again! Again, they have done a fabulous job of collecting and sorting waste at our recent sausage sizzle.

An extra WELL DONE to Charlie who went one step further and collected all classroom bins from senior classrooms and sorted their rubbish into the correct bins too!

The PTA continued their fabulous, mindful effort to buy 'low waste' products through bulk buying and environmentally friendly products.

Here's the data:

* Sausage sizzle #3 we collected:

- 7.84kg total of 'waste'

- 7.21kg of this was diverted from landfill (recyclable, compostable)

-  7.21kg/ 7.84kg = 92% diverted from landfill

EVEN MORE than last time!

The Hanging Plant

Here is how to make this cool bottle with a plant in it:
1. Find any bottle, a milk bottle will do too.
2. Cut up the top of the bottle.
3. Put some soil into the bottle.
4. Plant a seed in it.
5. Hang it up somewhere.
6. Water it and you did the hanging plant!!

 Diverting Waste From Landfill!

Our Senior Enviro Team, along with many other keen seniors have done a fabulous job of collecting and sorting waste at our recent sausage sizzles.

The PTA is also doing a great job of buying 'low waste' products (bulk, environmentally friendly) and helping to reduce waste through their careful use of resources.

Here's the hard facts:

* Sausage sizzle #2 we collected:

- 5.47kg total of 'waste'

- 4.96kg of this was diverted from landfill (recyclable, compostable)

-  4.96 kg/ 5.47kg = 91% diverted from landfill

ready to go!

In action!

Some of our fabulous team!
